Skywatch Friday - Sunset

IMG_7407

A mysterious bright orangish yellowy globe appeared the other day on the eastern horizon and got higher and higher and dropped below the western horizon at the end of the day. Some of the old timers around recall something similar back in the day. You wouldn't happen to know what is would you?

Cool, is it a reflection of the sun? Great capture! Happy skywatching and have a great weekend!

What a beautiful picture! This is just a guess, but it may have been the sun.

A great photo. I do not know what makes this effect!

And, congratulation to your one year celebration of hosting "Sky Watch Friday"!

In the olden days I'm sure someone would have been adamant that this was a UFO.

Back when we lived in Oregon, something like this would occasionally appear in the winter sky. It always scared the natives who didn't know what to do with their umbrellas.

I have not seen anything like this before, it's quite interesting. Did you figure out what causes this and what it is called? I would really like to know. Very cool picture!

I've heard of this....We had a similar experience after it got dark out. Folks around here are so cold stunned they can't recall what the old-timers call this phenomenon.
